Reverse profiling

چکیده

This paper addresses the problem of designing parallel message passing programs with a reasonable idea of how well they will actually perform before they are run. Models with very few parameters (e.g. LogP, PRAM) sacrifice accuracy to simplify design. By contrast, simulation techniques provide a good degree of accuracy by incorporating sophisticated architectural models, but present a “black box” to the user. This paper suggests a compromise between the two extremes, using an automatically generated model with a large number of parameters (a separate equation for each MPI function) which is presented to the user rather than being hidden within a black box. The profiling interface of MPI may be used “in reverse” to insert (rather than measure) expected timings from the model.

The Application of a Non-Radioactive DD-AFLP Method for Profiling of Aeluropus lagopoides Differentially Expressed Transcripts under Salinity or Drought Conditions

Aeluropus lagopoides is a salt and drought tolerant grass from Poaceae family, distributed widely in arid regions. There is almost no information about the genetics or genome of this close relative of wheat that stands harsh conditions of deserts. Differential Display Amplified fragment length polymorphism (DD-AFLP) led to the improvement of a non-radioactive method for which many parameters we...

Reverse Deterrence in Racial Profiling

A controlled experiment tested the possibility that racial profiling—disproportionate scrutiny of a minority racial group by sanctioned authorities—would have a “reverse deterrent” effect on the illicit behavior of members of a nonprofiled majority group. Research participants given a task involving extremely difficult anagrams were given the opportunity to cheat. White participants randomly as...

Reverse deterrence in racial profiling: Increased transgressions by the non-profiled group

Gene Expression Profiling via Multigene Concatemers

We established a novel method, Gene Expression Profiling via Multigene Concatemers (MgC-GEP), to study multigene expression patterns simultaneously. This method consists of the following steps: (1) cDNA was obtained using specific reverse primers containing an adaptor. (2) During the initial 1-3 cycles of polymerase chain reaction (PCR), the products containing universal adaptors with digestion...

Improved quantitative real-time RT-PCR for expression profiling of individual cells.

The real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (rtqPCR) has overcome the limitations of conventional, time-consuming quantitative PCR strategies and is maturing into a routine tool to quantify gene expression levels, following reverse transcription (RT) of mRNA into complementary DNA (cDNA). Expression profiling with single-cell resolution is highly desirable, in particular for complex ti...
